Create Your Own Lego Movie Using a Cell Phone

Looking for something to do with all those Legos in your kids' toybox?   Do your kids love Lego movies?  My kids are huge fans of the stop action video craze and recently learned how to create their own Lego movie using Legos, a cell phone and a computer. Duplo Circus Set Creating a Lego movie is fun , a little tedious, but a lot of fun. The most tedious part is moving the characters a teeny, weeny bit at a time but the end result makes it all worth it.  You can create a circus movie or a Minecraft or Star Wars movie using themed Lego sets.   To begin, you will need: 1. Legos as actors and props 2. Phone to take pictures with 3 A laptop or desktop computer with Windows Movie Maker or iMovie to create the movie Now you’re ready to begin. Position your Legos and snap your first pic. Next, reposition the Lego just a tad and snap another pic. You can move the Lego about a ½” or so per pic to give the image of walking. Take a

Deal of the Day: $25 in Restaurant.com gift certificates for only $3!

Disclosure:  I received a Restaurant.com gift card for the purpose of this review. This post was made possible by Mom Spark Media . Thoughts are my own. Can you believe it's Spring already?  Time to open up the windows, breathe in some fresh air and get outside.  This is the time of year when friends and I enjoy Friday Night Art Walks and discovering new dishes at some of our favorite restaurants. You can tell a change of season is on the horizon as menus change to highlight lighter, brighter, tastier Spring menu options and the restaurant patios fill up. I am looking forward to menu changes at one particular neighborhood bistro.  The owners have a garden and pick fresh herbs each day and incorporates them into their daily menu offerings.   My mom loves the herb crusted salmon.  Hubby usually opts for the fish tacos.  I love the hummus sampler.  It's 3 different types of hummus with homemade pita chips.  Delicious!   Eating at the bistro is a treat because the menu is a

Unplug! MAKE a Little Time For You and 3 Ways To Make Sure You Do

Last week the kids and I drove up to Indianapolis to visit family and friends for a few days.  It was a much needed break.  It's been a few years since our last visit and it was nice to get away.  It's always nice to return to familiar places.  I'm sure the kids tired of stopping by my old, childhood neighborhood but they didn't say anything.  They'd seen these places several times over the years and listened to my stories of growing up near Butler University.  I love my kids as they listen without judgment and not once have I heard them sigh "Mommy, we know" as I've undoubtedly shared these stories with them more than once or twice.   An outing with some old friends left me feeling some kinda way.  My the years have been long and the stress of everyday life seemed to show on their faces.  "You haven't changed a bit", one said.  "You look so young", chimed in another "what's your secret?" she asked.  Secret?  Se

New Music Tuesday: “This IS What The Truth Feels Like” by Gwen Stefani

Guess who's No. 1 on the Billboard charts this week? Gwen Stefani, that's who.   This IS What the Truth Feels Like  is Stefani's first solo project to hit No. 1 on Billboard! Way to go Gwen! The 12 track CD ( 16 tracks on Target exclusive ) are sure to keep your rocking!  Stefani could have titled the CD "This is what LOVE looks like" because every single track reminds us she is in a happy place.  You go Gwen! Gwen has been in the public eye for years now.  Remember her as the rockin' chick in No Doubt or her solo days with the Harajuku backup dancers?  Loved her then, love her now!  She epitomizes strength and beauty in all of her tunes.  Then there's her much publicized break up with former hubby, Galvin Rossdale, which she sings about in the aptly titled track " Used to Love You ".   Gwen sings " Never thought this would happen, Gonna let it sink in, you're gone I don't know, know what I'm feeling, I

Giveaway - $5 Starbucks Gift Card

Starbucks  I just had to try the Caramelized Honey Latte and Frappuccino from Starbucks.        Have YOU tried it yet? I love coffee.  Seriously, I've posted about my love of the coffee throughout the years.  I also like to be among the first to try seasonal offerings from my favorite coffee shops.  Like  last year when Dunkin' Donuts offered their Pumpkin Macchiato.  OMG!  DELICIOUSNESS DEFINED. So, yes I had to try Starbucks Caramelized Honey Latte and Frappuccinos.  Recipe --> caramel honey sauce paired with Starbucks bold expresso and steamed milk.  Latte options are hot or cold or you can enjoy it as a Frappuccino.  I've tried ALL three varieties and although delicious the honey flavor is minimal.   Tasty - yes, but a little steep in calories but Spring is here and you'll walk off those calories in no time.   The grande  Caramelized Honey Latte  and  Frappuccino  with nonfat milk weigh in at 290 calories.  Oh, the 290 on the Frap is sans whipped c

How to Boil Eggs

It's Easter weekend and I figured my fellow Easter Bunny helpers would appreciate a few tips on how to boil eggs.  We'll cover dying them in another post.  One thing at a time folks, one thing at a time. I have a friend who doesn't cook.  Granted it's just her and her husband at home, she really doesn't cook.  It's just not her thing.  She is a master of many but cooking ain't one.  We were prepping for a community Easter egg hunt and I asked her to donate a couple dozen boiled eggs and her response was "I would, but you're gonna have to show me how to do it.  I really don't know how to boil eggs." I didn't laugh.  Promise, because I know her and I know it's true. She then chimed in with a story explaining what happened last time she ATTEMPTED to boil eggs.  "They were like not done."  YUK!  So, I was so happy to share my tried and true method of how to boil eggs and figured somewhere out there, someone is reading

Encourage Yourself... Encourage Others #LoveAndBlessed

When's the last time you had a good cry?  I mean a real tears streaming down your cheeks, makeup ruined, snot-dripping, cry.   Me?  Well, it was a couple of weeks ago.  Hubby had to have surgery.  Hubby and I have been married for almost 20 years.  He is one of the most amazing people I have met.  He's honest.  He's a wonderful father and husband and although the surgery was "outpatient", the last time he had outpatient surgery, he ended up in the hospital for nearly a week.   I put on a brave at all of his doctor's appointments but just before the nurses wheeled him off to surgery, we held hands and said a prayer and off he went.  The moment he was out of my sight, I walked to my car and just sat there, all alone, just wailing.  No kids.      No hubby.             No Mom. Just me... all alone... and it was the lowest feeling ever. I always tell others " You can't pray AND worry.  You gotta do one or the other and I choose to pray &qu

Win a Pair of Tickets to See The Young Messiah Now Playing in Theaters

A few months ago, hubby and I went to the movies to see " War Room " and a preview of  " The Young Messiah " aired.  The preview was AMAZING and hubby and I agreed we would bring the kids to see the movie when it comes out.  The movie looks like it would be an ideal outing for church groups. "The Young Messiah is not just a story about Jesus. It’s the story about Jesus and his family. Heading into this film the producers knew this was a fresh take on Jesus and the Holy family. The filmmakers quickly realized Mary and Joseph faced many of the same problems as parents today. As parents we are always face with difficult decisions on what's best for our children. Share with your readers a personal parenting story from your family of a difficult decision you made that was in your child's best interest. Weight... It's More Than Just a Number

Confession:  I don't regularly watch The Talk.  However, I caught a blurb about some ladies from the show - Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood - agreeing to post nude selfies ala Kim K. Sharon, being the bold diva she is, proudly posted her pic.  Sheryl, on the other hand didn't.  The following day she teared up saying " While I am not ashamed of my body in any way and while I love my brown skin to death. I hope that one day those pictures can come out for me as an individual woman who loves my curves and loves who I am. I thank Kim Kardashian for doing something so big that SHE may not even understand the discussion that she has truly started. But, I also have a responsibility to young women all over this country that may misunderstand me showing my body as some sexualized exercise in commerce and not empowering me to be 185 pounds and voluptuous and dark skinned and sexy and desirable. The reason I'm about to cry is because, I fought hard to get here, but now I

Things to See & Do When Visiting Memphis

My brother-in-law called asking what the Three Boys and an Old Lady family had planned for the weekend. Ever since our first family vacation together last year, my sister and I vowed to vacation with our combined families at least once a year. Since I have a couple of trips scheduled for this year (BlogHer ’16, D.C. and a couple of college tours with Los Tres Amigos), I suggested we save a few bucks and vacay a little closer to home. A couple of places came to mind. Dallas. San Antonio. Nashville. Memphis. After careful consideration, we opted for Memphis. Woohoo! The Three Boys and an Old Lady family has visited Memphis dozens of times but this is the first time my sister and her family have gone and of course they know I’m the ultimate tour guide. First thing that comes to mind when most think of Memphis is barbecue, rhythm and blues and all things Elvis. Funny thing, I polled a few friends and those were their exact responses. Yes, Memphis is home to some tasty

I'm a good  mom.  I'm not a "Make Breakfast Everyday" Mom, but I try to make sure my kids have a healthy breakfast before we head out the door to start our day.  I keep our freezer stocked with homemade breakfast burritos so the kids can just heat and eat.  I keep a pantry full of breakfast cereals like Honey Bunches of Oats Chocolate® but it never fails, in the midst of t
