Take a Stand Against Bullying

Bullying doesn't end in the hallway anymore-with a smartphone or tablet, it can happen anywhere. Over the weekend, our church announced a campaign for our primary students to combat bullying.  It was interesting listening to a group of 4-, 5-, and 6-year old children describe their encounters with bullies at their school.  4-, 5- and 6- years old is way to young to even understand the concept of bullying, yet these youth clearly identified bullies at their school and some of the mean things they witnessed children doing to other children.  The adults in attendance encouraged the youth to STAND UP TO BULLIES and reminded them to ALWAYS do the right thing.   Bullying has been a topic on the PTA and school board calendars for months and I am glad our school district created a Task Force to find ways to reduce and hopefully eliminate bullying in our schools.  I was proud to serve on the committee to develop the program and address parental concerns.  It will be interesting to see

Time to Get Funky with a Get on Up DVD Giveaway

Win This Blu-Ray DVD Combo Last month I shared news of the upcoming release of Get on Up, the James Brown Story. Click here to check out my post.  I LOVED this movie.  Chadwick Boseman did an awesome job portraying the Godfather of Soul and Dan Aykroyd blew me away with his performance.   I love biopics about musicians.  I really do.  Purple Rain reigns supreme in my video vault with The Temptations movie coming in at a close second.  I admit I wasn't fond of James Brown's music but it's the artist and the impact he had on the industry and civil rights which fascinated me.  I have heard the story of how Brown was scheduled to perform in Boston one night.  The night before his scheduled performance Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated and riots broke out nationwide.  Fearing the worst, Boston city officials planned to cancel the concert.  However, Brown, being the savvy businessman he was, played on.  His concert aired live on tv and Boston remained relativ

Books to Inspire You in the New Year!

I am so excited about the new year and the promise of things to come. There are so many great reads being released this year from some of my favorite authors. This week it's all about... INSPIRATION The new year begins a tradition of reading the Bible from cover to cover.  It's a tradition many of my family and friends have adopted throughout the year and one I've practiced for several years now.  Nothing like a spiritual recharge to kick off the new year! What books do you find yourself reading each year?  Which authors inspire you?   Hachette Book Group - home of FaithWords and Center Street books - has several great books to inspire and recharge from world-renowned authors such as Joyce Meyer and John C. Maxwell.  I really enjoy reading Joyce Meyer's books and have a friend who regularly indulges in Meyer's writings with me.  Nothing better than sharing a fab read with a friend.  Check out these recent releases from Meyer and Maxwell.
