Win This Blu-Ray DVD Combo
Last month I shared news of the upcoming release of Get on Up, the James Brown Story. Click here to check out my post. I LOVED this movie. Chadwick Boseman did an awesome job portraying the Godfather of Soul and Dan Aykroyd blew me away with his performance.
I love biopics about musicians. I really do. Purple Rain reigns supreme in my video vault with The Temptations movie coming in at a close second. I admit I wasn't fond of James Brown's music but it's the artist and the impact he had on the industry and civil rights which fascinated me. I have heard the story of how Brown was scheduled to perform in Boston one night. The night before his scheduled performance Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated and riots broke out nationwide. Fearing the worst, Boston city officials planned to cancel the concert. However, Brown, being the savvy businessman he was, played on. His concert aired live on tv and Boston remained relatively quiet that night.
Get on Up is funky from the beginning til the end and OMG I can't believe I wrote that BUT it's James Brown and for some reason the word "funky" seems to describe his music unlike any other. Check out the movie and if you've see it, what'd you think. I'd love to know.
