Meet the Author: A Few Thoughts from Kevin Meehan, Author of Isoceles' Day

Last month I received the book Isosceles' Day to review as part of our Bedtime for Babies book review. I am so excited to have the opportunity to share a guest post from the author of the book, Kevin Meehan.  Isosceles' Day is the first children's book for this author and we really enjoyed the book and look forward to sharing with our youth reading group this Summer.  With the eyes of a child we learn how to see! The concept for Isosceles' Day is based upon the innocence we humans frequently have as children; often lost as we become educated adults. I wanted to capture the essence of seeing animal's possible interactions removed from our common sense of reality. Instead of a linear story traditionally told, I introduced silly, fun, whimsical behaviors and interactions of our domesticated pets with unusual friends not normally seen in an ordinary story. Shaking up reality in a fanciful, untraditional way. I feel that in many ways I was able to achieve this;

A Visit to Elvis' Birthplace in Tupelo, Mississippi

Graceland is a mecca for Elvis fans like my sister.  Ticket sales from Graceland are the primary reason Elvis ranks high on the list of top earning celebrities who've passed.  I think Michael is the only celebrity who outranks Elvis' earnings.   A few blocks from Graceland on a quiet street in Memphis sits a small 4-bedroom, 2-bath ranch style home.  Elvis bought the home in 1956 when he was just 22 years old.  I surprised my sister with a visit to his home on Audobon Street a few years ago.  She was so surprised as she'd only visited Graceland and had no idea about this lesser known Elvis Must See.  This year, we added another notch on our Elvis Sites with a stop in Tupelo, Mississippi to visit Elvis' birthplace. Elvis' father, grandfather and uncle built the small, two room house where Elvis and his twin brother were born.   The Elvis Birthplace features a replica of the home, the family's church and even a car like that his parents owned.

Instant Pot Barbecue Ribs

Can't barbecue outside this weekend?  Try these delicious Instant Pot BBQ Ribs. This Winter has been more rainy days than snowy ones and that means we can't fire up the smoker which means we haven't had Hubby's smoked ribs in months. I was craving ribs and decided to break out the Instant Pot.  Winning Hubby over on the idea of a slab of ribs in 30 minutes took some swaying.  He believes the only way to grill is low and slow and outdoors in our big smoker.  I figured it was worth a go thinking if all else failed I could finish the up in the oven. I'd seen recipes for Instant Pot BBQ Ribs where you could cook a slab in 30 minutes and I was up to the challenge. I love my crock pots, but I LOVE my Instant Pot.  It is my current cooking appliance crush.   Start with 1 rack of baby back ribs, some dry rub, a cup of water or apple juice and your favorite barbecue sauce. Instructions: 1.  Remove the membrane from the ribs and pat the ribs dry. 2.  Seas

Life is a Beach Giveaway Hop

Spring is in full swing.  The birds are singin'.  The pollen is falling and temps are FINALLY warming up.  So what better time time to start planning our Summer getaways. This year - as always - we are beach bound.  It's one of our fave places to visit given we only get to the beach once or twice a year.   Last year's visit to Cozumel was one for the record books. We stopped by this little restaurant and dined on grilled shrimp in a cabana right on the beach.   'Ohana also has a line of tequilas in flavors I had never seen before.  Tropical flavors such as coconut, mango and pina colada.  Hubby and I tried the 'Ohana peanut butter tequila.  The owner said folks either love it or hate it... we LOVED it!!! As I was sipping all I could think of was how good this peanut butter tequila would taste as a baste on my tequila wings.  It would be like a tequila satay wings type dish. * * * G I V E A W A Y * * * One lucky Three Boys and an Old Lady blog reader will r

A Quick Pit stop at the B.B. King Museum

A couple hours drive from Memphis, you'll find Indianola, Mississippi, the birthplace of legendary Blues guitarist, B.B. King.  King died in May 2015 and the museum opened in 2008.   The building is on old cotton gin where King used to work as a kid.  The cotton gin has been restored and is now a building rich in music history. Inside are lots of interactive exhibits showcasing the legendary guitarist.  Your visit begins with a film documenting the life of King and an exhibit hall detailing events in the life of B.B.
