6 HEALTHIER Tips to Beat End of the Day Energy Zaps

Last week was a busy one. Days started early and ended late and by the afternoon, I was completely exhausted. I have never liked the flavor of those so-called “energy drinks” and drinking coffee late in the afternoon usually throws off my regular sleeping schedule so I needed a few ideas to avoid the end of the day energy zap. You know that when you’ve got so much more to do and not enough energy to power through. Whether it’s working all day and then having to get ready for afterschool activities or meetings with the teachers or in my case trying to get everything done before heading away for a weekend social media conference, there are days when I’ve got more to do than energy to do it with.

Over the years, I’ve learned some tried and true tips to help beat the end of the day energy zaps.

1. Get some fresh air
Nothing like a breath of fresh air to energize you mind, body and spirit. Now that the chill of Autumn is in the air, that cold air is sure to give you a little boost. Fresh air helps increase oxygen flow and happy vibes. So get up and get outside and soak up some vitamin D. Take that parking spot a little further away and get in a few extra steps while you’re at it.

2. Get a good night’s rest
A nap probably sounds like a good way to beat the end of the day energy zap but ironically it’s not. If you’ve got a busy day planned, be sure to get in a good night’s rest the night before. Think about it, we always tell our kids to get a good night’s rest before a big test. Well, it’s the same for us.

Take a warm bath or shower to help you relax.  Curl up in the bed with a good book and read a few pages at bedtime.  Sprinkle a few drop of lavender oil in a diffuser to scent your bedroom. Turn off the tv.  Put your cell phone on vibrate and get some rest. It's amazing how a good night's rest energizes you for the day ahead.

3. Grab some fruit
Nothing like some fresh fruit to get your engines revving. Plus, fresh fruit is convenient. You can put an orange in the cup holder or a banana right beside the phone charger and snack on the go. Fresh fruit offers lots of good sugars, carbs and vitamins. Take bananas for example. Bananas are high in Vitamin B, fiber and potassium. Not a fan of bananas, then reach for an orange or better yet, indulge in one of the nearly 7,500 varieties of apples. Yes, apples! And yes, there are about 7,500 different varieties of apples each packing vitamins B and C and potassium for that much needed energy boost.

4. Energy Shots
Energy shots are a quick, convenient and tasty way to boost your energy BUT many of them are full of high levels of caffeine and sugar so be careful. There are some healthier energy shots on the market. One of my favorites is Kuli Kuli. Kuli Kuli energy shots come in four tasty varieties: Stress Be Gone – Honey Chamomile, Get Well Soon – Citrus C, Daily Green Boost – Apple Cucumber and Focus Focus Focus – Raspberry Acai. Each 2.5 fl. oz. shot is caffeine free, fortified with moringa and super greens, protein, vitamins and moringa. Moringa is a superfood!

We recently tried the Apple Cucumber Kuli Kuli Daily Green Boost as an alternative to those hour energy shots and overall, we liked it.

The texture reminded me of wheat grass but the odor and flavor were definitely apple cucumber. We tried it at room temp and served ice cold. I even added Kuli Kuli Daily Green Boost to my morning smoothie and it was soooooooo… good.

Moringa is known to be very nutritious as it is high in antioxidants and Kuli Kuli Daily Green Boost is a tasty way to boost your energy.

5. Have a glass of water
My mom is a master when it comes to drinking water. I guess that’s why she is so full of energy. Some times when fatigue sets in we are just dehydrated. A tall glass of water is a scientifically proven, zero calorie way to boost your energy. Think about it there’s ALWAYS water on the sidelines at our kid’s sporting events and that’s because hydration is so important. It helps keep the muscles functioning well and gives a much needed boost of energy to keep our bodies fueled.

6. Back away from the screen
Let’s face it, we spend a lot of time glancing at screens. Whether it’s a computer screen, our phones or other electronic devices we are looking at a screen and most times we are sitting while doing it. Get up and stretch and get that blood flowing. Remember the shoulder to ear raises in middle school P.E. classes? And a one, and a two and raise those shoulders to your ear to ward of tension in your neck and get that blood flowing.

Another quick way to ward of the end of day energy zap is to get up out the chair. Just stand up. Sit back down. Take a few steps away from the desk. Put your electronic device a few steps away so when you’ll have to get up and answer that text. Give those beautiful eyes of yours a much needed screen time break.

These are six of our favorite tried and true ways to beat the end of the day energy zaps.
What are some of your favorite ways to boost your energy?

I have those energy zaps on most afternoons, and by the time I hit my bed at night. I feel exhausted, with several tasks waiting to be ticked off the checklist. The one good thing is I love moringa and prepare it at least once a week. I'll check out these energy shots soon!

Life is a Beach Giveaway Hop

Spring is in full swing.  The birds are singin'.  The pollen is falling and temps are FINALLY warming up.  So what better time time to start planning our Summer getaways. This year - as always - we are beach bound.  It's one of our fave places to visit given we only get to the beach once or twice a year.   Last year's visit to Cozumel was one for the record books. We stopped by this little restaurant and dined on grilled shrimp in a cabana right on the beach.   'Ohana also has a line of tequilas in flavors I had never seen before.  Tropical flavors such as coconut, mango and pina colada.  Hubby and I tried the 'Ohana peanut butter tequila.  The owner said folks either love it or hate it... we LOVED it!!! As I was sipping all I could think of was how good this peanut butter tequila would taste as a baste on my tequila wings.  It would be like a tequila satay wings type dish. * * * G I V E A W A Y * * * One lucky Three ...
