Travel Tips and Destination Suggestions for the Solo Female Traveler

*guest post courtesy of Jennifer @ Box of Style*
Traveling alone might just be one of the most exciting and empowering things you can ever do as a woman. Exploring the world on your own schedule is as challenging as it is rewarding, and as scary as it might initially sound, there couldn’t be a better opportunity out there.

Below are some top recommendations of where to go if you want to embark on a solo traveling adventure this summer:

Canada

Let’s start off small. Canada is certainly far enough to be classed as an adventure, but not far enough to be scary. And thanks to its solid women's rights record, it’s no surprise that Canada attracts its fair share of solo female travelers, so you’ll be in excellent company.

There is such a diverse range of scenery to take in, so you’ll never get bored of what Canada has to offer. The magical Great Bear Rainforest, the Arctic Baffin Island, and the Haida Gwaii are all top of the list for first time solo travelers. And the food, might we add, is magnificent. Vancouver is a particular highlight, mainly thanks to its diverse and delicious selection of Chinese, Vietnamese, and Malay food. Sign us up!

Switzerland

Offering a little bit of everything – adventure, great scenery, and impeccable wine, to name just a few – is the safe and picturesque country of Switzerland.

Deemed one of the safest destinations for solo female travelers, we wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to pay it a visit. A vacation of skiing, hiking and rock climbing, teamed with great food, and wine which rivals that of France and Italy, is a definite no brainer.

Unlike some of the following locations on this list, Switzerland often has a cooler climate. So, as a traveler, it is important to prepare for these conditions, especially if you plan to ski or partake in some of the outdoors activities. In this case, you may want to buy an accessory subscription. This will provide you with any add-ons your outfit may require.

New Zealand

If you’re after an adventurous vacation, New Zealand is the place for you! It’s been voted one of the best destinations for thrill-seekers, and its famous volcano hike on White Island is just one of the reasons why. If you’re a fan of bungee jumping and riding in a jet boat all afternoon, head to South Island to fulfill all your adventure dreams.

With great weather in New Zealand, you’re going to want some options in terms of your outfit, especially given the activities you may be taking part in. In order to feel comfortable and maintain versatility, check out a summer subscription box to check off all these boxes.

Portugal

Another European marvel is Portugal – a must-see destination full of culture that can be enjoyed by solo travelers, families, groups of friends, and couples in love alike.

Portugal is great for solo travelers; in particular, solo travelers who are partial to an Instagram post, or maybe ten. The country has been hashtagged over 23,000,000 times, and with its stunning tiles and gorgeous beaches (the Algarve region boasts over 150 beaches), it’s not hard to see why.

Indonesia

Indonesia is a popular destination for many tourists. The beauty of Indonesia is that it can also be enjoyed as part of a tour or volunteer group, which makes solo traveling just that little bit less solo.

It’s great for those who are still a little bit apprehensive about traveling so far on their own. But, even if you wanted to brave it and explore Indonesia alone, the friendly locals and extremely safe destinations (Bali is a great example) would make it a stress-free and enjoyable experience.

What do I pack?

Packing is stressful enough when you’re traveling in pairs or large groups, but it’s even more so when you have to go it alone.

The most important thing to remember is to pack light, and only pack the essentials.Reversible clothes are always great – waterproof and weatherproof ones at that. We can never predict the weather when we’re at home, let alone in foreign countries and continents, so it’s always important to be proactive and prepare for the worst.

Even though you want to take memorable pictures to document your trip, remember that you are not walking down the runway. Leave the expensive heels at home and opt for comfortable, durable footwear. And limit your selection to a maximum of three – no exceptions!

A final packing tip is to remember to bring a spare change of clothes in your carry on. You’ll thank us when your suitcase gets lost and you don’t have to explore a new town in yesterday’s sweaty travel clothes!

There is certainly a wide range of places to visit as a solo female traveler, and while you may like some better than others, it’s still important to know the location before you go as well as pack the necessary clothing. This advice will help you for your next vacation!

Maple and Brown Sugar Air Fryer Bacon

I've been raving about my Instant Pot but now I have a new favorite... the Air Fryer.   O M G This thing is amazing!  I don't know why I was so late to the Air Fryer craze but I am so glad I am finally onboard.   I've been talking about getting one and then after my aunt posted pics of her new air fryer, that was it off to Best Buy I went.   I wasn't sure how big of a unit I would need but I figured the 2.5 liter would suffice.  I chose the Chefman Express.  It was priced on the shelves for $85 but online for $75.99 and my local store matched the price AND I had my Swagbucks Best Buy QR code so I got 500 SBs + 2 SBs for every dollar spent so that's another 170 SBs.  So, after discounts, my air fryer ended up costing me less than the sale price.  Woohoo! There were some fancy ones on the shelves with digital display but after checking the reviews I figured since I don't fry much this model would suffice. When I think of fried foods, I think

A Pit Stop at Sho Nuff Hot Tamales in Greenville, Mississippi

My cousin and I were driving along and our tummies were rumbling as we crossed the Mississippi state line on US-82.  We didn't really have any particular dish in mind for lunch but we started seeing signs saying "Hot Tamales". "Hot Tamales", my Philly cousin asked. "Yep", I replied nonchalantly.  "I remember reading something about hot tamales being a big thing here in the Delta."   We kept driving and finally decided we would have to try these famous Mississippi Delta hot tamales. Now to decide which one.  There were literally dozens of tamale spots.  We happened upon a restaurant called Sho-Nuff and decided it was the one. We parked and entered the large, delightfully decorated restaurant.  The wall was plastered with local and national awards in recognition of those hot tamales.   There was a sign touting Sho-Nuff as the winner of the local newspaper's favorite restaurant award and 3rd place winner in the annual  Delta Hot Ta
