I was thrilled to receive 10, 9, 8... Owls Up Late! By Georgianna Deutsch and illustrated by Ekaterina Trukhan. The book is perfect for preschoolers ages: 3 - 5 and a perfect read for our Bedtime for Baby Book Reviews. I love books that helps reemphasize learning skills particularly for toddlers and preschoolers. Their little minds are always itching to learn more.
My niece runs a daycare and my great nephew is one of her best students. He's such a fantastic counter and he knows all of his ABCs. We put him on the spot every time he comes to visit to wow us with his skills and he gets a little shy sometimes. Truth is he's smart like his mom. I remember when she about 9 or 10 and she could recite the longest poems. There was something about the rhythmic flow of the words that she just embraced and for the life of me I can't recall the name of this one poem she would recite over and over. I was so enamored by the authority and confidence in her voice when she spoke the words in that poem.
That's one of the reasons I love this Bedtime for Baby book selection. The rhythmic text is jovial and it's fun to read and when the kids hear the smile in your voice, they tend to focus on it. When they're focused on it, guess what... they're learning.
Ten little owls are playing in a tree,
hopping and hooting happily.
But Mama Owl calls from down in the nest,
“It’s bedtime now; it’s time to rest.”
Peek through the pages and spot the mischievous owls in this fun counting book, perfect for bedtime!
The board book is 26 pages so it's one of those books you can read in one sitting or split it up over the course of a few nights.
The book is available at stores nationwide including Walmart, Target, Amazon and more.
What are/were some of your favorite books to read to your little ones?
