7 Tips for a Safe Halloween

October 31 will soon be here.  Before the kids put on that costume, now is a good time to talk to your kids about Halloween safety.

There was a time when I didn't believe these tips were important until a few years when a car narrowly missed hitting a group of neighborhood kids.  Talk about a terrifying experience.

Here are 7 tips for to help trick or treaters of all ages have a safe Halloween

1.  Decorate using reflective tape.  Add a few pieces of reflective tape to your child's costume and trick or treat bags.  This makes it easier for others to see your trick or treater.  If you don't have reflective tape, consider using glow sticks or a flashlight.

2.  Set a designated time to trick or treat or a specific number of houses.

3.  No running. Make sure little ones look both ways before crossing the street.  This is a great time to practice pedestrian safety with your kids.

4.  Stay with the group.  Cross the street together as a group and trick or treat as a group.  No one goes alone.

5.  Only visit houses with the porch or outside lights on.

6.   Never go inside anyone's home.

7.  No eating candy until you get home.  Parents, you may want to pack a few snacks for your kids as this is one of the toughest rules to adhere to.

Of course, as parents we check to make sure candy is wrapped and shy away from home baked treats or fresh fruit.  After we check the kids' candy we count it and come up with a plan so they don't eat all their treats in a single day.

We also look for 100% natural or healthier treats like GLEE gum Gum Pops.  Our kids loves these gum pops and I love that there free of artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners and preservatives.
Be sure to review the rules frequently before trick or treating and here's wishing you and yours a very safe and very happy Halloween.
Do you have any Halloween safety tips?  Will you trick or treat with your kids this year?

We always went over all of these rules before going trick or treating when our children were young. Good to know something haven't changed over the years.

Using a little reflective tape to make things safer for everyone is a good idea. It should make it easier for everyone to stay together too.

Great tips for being safe. You have to be careful with just about everything you do. You can have a great time while also being safe. Something we all have to try and keep in mind.

Always good to make sure kids know the basics of Halloween safety. I like to put a glow stick in my kid's Halloween buckets so that it glows. It is tough when the kids get excited and start running - definitely something to stay on top of.

These are all great Halloween Safety tips! I don't have kids so I don't go trick or treating but I do hand out candy in my neighborhood. I like it because everyone that hands out candy sits outside their house and the kids just walk by. It's pretty fantastic.

These are all helpful tips for us parents. Sometimes, kids have the tendency to eat treat while doing the trick or treat.
It's a shame how you have to worry about things like a fun night like this. That's how I remember Halloween was getting dressed up in a homemade costume, walking up and down the street and coming home with tons of candy.

Never going into someone's home is a big one. Everyone gets pulled into the holiday fun and forgets there's creeps still out there.

Awesome tips! These are the things both parents and children must be aware of. When my kids were young, there was always an older cousin who went with them as they go about from house to house on Halloween. If no older cousin is available, then it would be either me or my husband. I love your advice to only knock on houses with an outside light or porch light on, and of course, no going inside a house.

Great tips, we just got back from trick or treating (my feet are hurting). The reflective tape is a good suggestion, can't be too safe out there.

These are some great tips! I always like to use reflective tape or glow-in-the-dark things to wear.
Those are all great reminders. I learned as a child it wasn't safe to eat candy until after I got home and my parents checked it. Now I do the same.

Maple and Brown Sugar Air Fryer Bacon

I've been raving about my Instant Pot but now I have a new favorite... the Air Fryer.   O M G This thing is amazing!  I don't know why I was so late to the Air Fryer craze but I am so glad I am finally onboard.   I've been talking about getting one and then after my aunt posted pics of her new air fryer, that was it off to Best Buy I went.   I wasn't sure how big of a unit I would need but I figured the 2.5 liter would suffice.  I chose the Chefman Express.  It was priced on the shelves for $85 but online for $75.99 and my local store matched the price AND I had my Swagbucks Best Buy QR code so I got 500 SBs + 2 SBs for every dollar spent so that's another 170 SBs.  So, after discounts, my air fryer ended up costing me less than the sale price.  Woohoo! There were some fancy ones on the shelves with digital display but after checking the reviews I figured since I don't fry much this model would suffice. When I think of fried foods, I think

A Pit Stop at Sho Nuff Hot Tamales in Greenville, Mississippi

My cousin and I were driving along and our tummies were rumbling as we crossed the Mississippi state line on US-82.  We didn't really have any particular dish in mind for lunch but we started seeing signs saying "Hot Tamales". "Hot Tamales", my Philly cousin asked. "Yep", I replied nonchalantly.  "I remember reading something about hot tamales being a big thing here in the Delta."   We kept driving and finally decided we would have to try these famous Mississippi Delta hot tamales. Now to decide which one.  There were literally dozens of tamale spots.  We happened upon a restaurant called Sho-Nuff and decided it was the one. We parked and entered the large, delightfully decorated restaurant.  The wall was plastered with local and national awards in recognition of those hot tamales.   There was a sign touting Sho-Nuff as the winner of the local newspaper's favorite restaurant award and 3rd place winner in the annual  Delta Hot Ta
