I have a confession: I am struggling to lose weight. Whew! That felt good. No, it's not a New Year's resolution, I am seriously struggling to lose weight.
My weight gain began in my late 20s when I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Disease). The weight continued to pile in my 30s as Hubby and I started our fertility treatments and then after having twins and a single within a year, the weight wasn't going anywhere.
I used to jokingly say "It's baby weight" but my "babies" will graduate soon so I can toss that excuse out huh?
Now before you go all "you need to exercise more", let me stop you there. I have 4 kids. I work full time. I'm an avid volunteer and I am ALWAYS on the run which means I'm usually eating on the run and I admit I haven't made the healthiest choices. Funny thing is I try to instill healthy eating habits in my kids but I wasn't even heeding my own words. I wouldn't let them fill up on junk food and snack til infinity but I was filling my plate with calorie laden items and eating massive amounts of food.
Enough is enough. Time to make changes and I decided to try Nutrisystem.
If you have been following me on Twitter and Instagram, you may have seen a few pics of my Nutrisystem journey (tagged with #NSNation). Yep, I've joined Nutrisystem.
I'm using the Nutrisystem Lean 13. It's a one-week jumpstart titled the Turbo Takeoff. that "includes seven days of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, plus two healthy shakes. Turboshakes™, all-new and packed with protein plus probiotics, help support digestive health and bust belly bloat, and NutriCrush® Bars help crush hunger."
Plus you have the NuMi app, The Leaf - Nutrisystem's website, a daily tracker and a counselor available to guide you through the program.
The app makes it easy to chart my progress and I am learning nutrition tips and finding great recipes on The Leaf.
My first week has been quite the experience. I had to get used to eating breakfast. I've never been much of a breakfast person but I followed the plan to a T. I am learning portion control. I am making better choices. I am changing and I love it!
I discovered a few tips during my first week which I'm sure will come in handy during my journey:
✅ Need More Veggies: A 12 oz. bag of frozen veggies = 4 servings. Eat half at lunch and the other half at dinner and you've eaten a full day's serving of veggies,
✅ Need More Water: Fill a 64 oz. container with water and make it a goal to finish drinking most, if not all, of the water by early evening.
✅ Soda Withdrawal: Add a slice of lemon or a little orange zest to flavor your water. For a really refreshing treat, add a couple of cucumber slices.
✅ Get Up: Take a break from the computer. Dance. Just get up and move your body. Better yet, check out some of the Winter foilage. If temps where you live are anything like the temps where I live, it may be 60 degrees one day and 30 the next. Get out on one of the warmer days and soak up some of that Vitamin D.
My favorite part of Week One was definitely the Turboshakes™. The Turboshakes™ were filling and tasty. I am a little nervous about Week 2 without the Turboshakes™ but I have so many other tasty food choices yet to try.
So, did I lose any weight in Week 1? You bet I did.
I lost a total 8 lbs. *curtsies gracefully*
I am excited about starting Week 2 and can't wait to share my results with you. Be sure to follow my journey and that of the other Nutrisystem Bloggers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube by checking out the #NSNation hashtag.
