This Blogging Mama is @BlogHer Bound

OMG! One week til BlogHer '16!!! *tosses confetti* So much to do.    So little time. I've glanced and glanced at the schedule of events and narrowed down the list of sessions I want to attend. I've RSVP'd to a few parties here and there.  Tweeting and messaged a few fellow BlogHer bound peeps.  I am sooooooooooo... excited.  I've been to a couple of blogger conferences but this BlogHer, the consummate blogging conference. The epitome of blogging conferences.  The bom-diggity-dog-diggity.  The creme de la creme, okay, I'm out of analogies. I'm just so beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to experience this event. Seriously, I'm like a kid on the first day of school. I am so looking forward to meeting some of my B.C.s (Blogger Crushes) in person and pray I don't gasp in total idol hysteria when we meet. Note to self "Your blog is a business and you must present it as such." Which reminds me I need to pack plenty of bus...

3 Quick Easy, I Don't Have to Turn on My Stove Breakfast Ideas

With temps nearing 90 degrees by 8 in the morning, I shriek at the thought of turning on my stove. Of course I want to make sure my family has a hearty breakfast but there'll be no biscuits baking in my kitchen this Summer.  Our microwave, however, is getting one heckuva a workout thanks to these tasty breakfast dishes.  Be forewarned though, you may want to coat your mug or ramekin with some non-stick spray or butter before adding ingredients as clean up may require some soaking and scrubbing. I love omelettes and the kids love creating omelettes.  It's a delicious way to get rid of those last couple slices of ham or turkey, that last little sprinkle of cheese and that last smidgen of diced veggies or that one teeny, weeny wedge of onion.   Omelette in a Mug Ingredients:      2 eggs     1 tbsp. milk or water     Tbsp or two of your favorite toppings: cheese, ham, bacon, etc. Directions:   ...

My Kid Went to Summer Camp and Came Home with a Cavity

I couldn't believe it when the dentist looked at me and told me that MY kid has a cavity. "Not my kid", I shrieked. Seriously, I shrieked. Clutching the pearls and shaking my head in total disbelief.  I know a cavity isn't the end of the world but somehow a cavity invading my son's precious little teeth really struck a nerve with me.  How did THIS happen? I mean we brush 3 times a day. We floss. Visit the dentist regularly. Limit sugary snacks. Drink fluoridated water. Avoid colas and sodas and opt for juice. Juice.?! Juice? OMG…juice!!! Now that I think about it, juice is probably the culprit in my kid's case. I typically buy unsweetened fruit juices and avoid sugar-laden juices. I can't taste any difference and I imagine the kids can't either. I mean they never complained about it. Plus, this devout label reading mama noticed our regular apple juice contained nearly 30% SUGAR per 8 oz. serving and immediately switched to unsweetened ...

Phiona’s Story: The Queen of Katwe

What's on your list of must see movies this year? Have you heard the buzz the Queen of Katwe ? It's the story of Phiona, a young girl from Uganda who learns to play chess which leads to a world of opportunities.   Disney picked up on the story and made it into a movie scheduled to release later this year.  I am so looking forward to sharing this movie with my kids.  Not only is it an inpirational story BUT Lupita Nyong'o and David Oyelowo have starring roles in the movie.  OMG!!!  I love me some  Lupita  and am a huge fan of David from his roles in Selma and the highly underrated flick Captive . Often the book is much better than the movie and I can't wait to compare the two.  I indulged in this awesome story of this dynamic young lady.  I'm excited about Disney sharing her story so the world can learn how she is giving back to her beloved country and empowering other girls and inspiring women everywhere.  Phiona hasn't...
