Be the Dad She Needs You to Be Book Review

Be the Dad She Needs You to Be
The Indelible Imprint a Father Leaves on His Daughter's Life

A call to dads to step up to the plate to become the loving, actively engaged father that a daughter needs for life and relational success.

The relationship that matters most to your daughter isn't the one with her mother-it's the one with you, Dad. Her self-esteem, choices, behavior, character, and even her ideas about or choice of a marriage partner are all directly tied to you, as the most important representative to her of the male species.

In Be the Dad She Needs You to Be, Dr. Kevin Leman, internationally-known psychologist, New York Times best-selling author, and father of four daughters, will show you not only how to get the fathering job done and done well, but also how to:

Make each daughter feel unique, special, and valued
Discipline the right way . . . when it's needed
Talk turkey about what guys are really thinking
Keep the critical eye at bay
Wave the truce flag when females turn your family room into a battleground
Set your daughter up for life and relational success
With some effort on your part (and very few dollars), you can gain the kind of relationship you dream of with your daughter-one based on mutual love and respect. The simple yet profound suggestions will transform you into the kind of man your daughter needs . . . for a lifetime.

My Thoughts: The relationship between a father and a daughter is an important one and really helps shape the type of woman the daughter will become. He presents some insightful statistical data in the first chapter which sets the framework for the importance of the father / daughter relationship.

Dr. Leman writes of some of the benefits of having an engaged dad:

  • The daughters have higher self worth
  • The daughters rebel less, especially in critical years
  • Their adult relationships are healthier
  • Their life trajectories are more successful

The rest of the book is written based on his experiences as a father of four daughters. He has a son, but this book isn't about dads or father/son relationships, it's about father/daughter relationships.  Dr. Leman's reflections throughout Be the Dad She Needs You to Be on his relationship with his daughters is well written but he seems a little old fashioned in some of his ideas about gender roles. However, Dr. Leman has written several books on family dynamics and being somewhat familiar with his work, I wasn't too bothered by the clear distinctions about his views on the differences in the parenting styles between moms and dads.  Dr. Leman makes a strong case for the importance of dads in the lives of their daughters and overall Be the Dad She Needs You to Be is a pretty good read.

Buy It:  Be the Dad She Needs You to Be is available in bookstores worldwide including Thomas Nelson and Amazon.

Life is a Beach Giveaway Hop

Spring is in full swing.  The birds are singin'.  The pollen is falling and temps are FINALLY warming up.  So what better time time to start planning our Summer getaways. This year - as always - we are beach bound.  It's one of our fave places to visit given we only get to the beach once or twice a year.   Last year's visit to Cozumel was one for the record books. We stopped by this little restaurant and dined on grilled shrimp in a cabana right on the beach.   'Ohana also has a line of tequilas in flavors I had never seen before.  Tropical flavors such as coconut, mango and pina colada.  Hubby and I tried the 'Ohana peanut butter tequila.  The owner said folks either love it or hate it... we LOVED it!!! As I was sipping all I could think of was how good this peanut butter tequila would taste as a baste on my tequila wings.  It would be like a tequila satay wings type dish. * * * G I V E A W A Y * * * One lucky Three ...
