Benefits of Journaling In and Outside the Classroom + a Giveaway

While packing up my kid's stuff for college we came across one of his old journals from elementary school.  It was fun listening to him read aloud some of his entries.  There were lots of "Mom, listen to this" and "Wow-ow I forgot all about this" as he flipped through the pages.

Journaling or "free writing" as some teachers called it was a requirement for much of his elementary school years.  When he struggled with things to write about I would tell him one day he would look back at this and have a good laugh.  I was so right!

Although my kid may not have realized it then, journaling is never solely about writing.  In fact there are so many benefits to journaling.  Writing expresses creativity and can be very relaxing.  I write often but I began journaling again this Summer after the unexpected death of two of my dearest friends.  Grief is a fairly unfamiliar emotion for me and there were times I couldn't find words to express the various feelings I felt but somehow writing them down helped.  Writing helped me to better manage all the pent up emotions I was feeling and helped me cope.

Enough about me.  Did you know that journaling helps minimize stress, develop critical thinking and writing skills?

Here are a few journaling sets from Thunder Bay Press to help you and your kid start on your path to journaling.

The Creative Journaling Set is perfect for kids and adults.  Kids will love the variety of stuff that comes with this set.  While adults will love the variety of uses for this set such as meal planning, fitness tracking and more.

Keeping a journal helps everyone in so many different ways. Schools might think it is mostly about writing but it can help express so many feelings and emotions. Everyone should journal.

This is such a good idea I wish I had thought about this long. I may have my kiddos start doing the journal just so he has something to look at later on in life.
I did not know journaling could be this beneficial! I will have to give it a try - I welcome any tips to reduce stress.

I love writing on my daily journal. It's my way of recording everything that happens and when I can't remember anymore when I get old, I can read them.

I used to journal all the time when I was a kid. As a blogger, a skill like that really pays off.
I love finding my kids old journals. I could spend hours reading them. I wish I had the time to journal myself.

Life is a Beach Giveaway Hop

Spring is in full swing.  The birds are singin'.  The pollen is falling and temps are FINALLY warming up.  So what better time time to start planning our Summer getaways. This year - as always - we are beach bound.  It's one of our fave places to visit given we only get to the beach once or twice a year.   Last year's visit to Cozumel was one for the record books. We stopped by this little restaurant and dined on grilled shrimp in a cabana right on the beach.   'Ohana also has a line of tequilas in flavors I had never seen before.  Tropical flavors such as coconut, mango and pina colada.  Hubby and I tried the 'Ohana peanut butter tequila.  The owner said folks either love it or hate it... we LOVED it!!! As I was sipping all I could think of was how good this peanut butter tequila would taste as a baste on my tequila wings.  It would be like a tequila satay wings type dish. * * * G I V E A W A Y * * * One lucky Three ...
