Popcorn Garland

This post is sponsored by SC Johnson.  All opinions are my own. #ZiplocHolidayUAI

One of my earliest Christmas memories is sitting on my grandma’s living room floor stringing popcorn with the classic western “Gunsmoke” blaring in the background. I’m sure we ate more popcorn than we strung on the tree, but that never seemed to bother my grandma.

Unlike my grandma, I don’t pop corn on the stovetop. I like the convenience of popping corn in a microwave. It’s quicker and there’s no mess to clean up.

It’s a tradition I’ve shared with my kids and one I hope to share with my grandkids one day. Packing popcorn in a holiday @Ziploc brand Snap 'n Seal container with the instructions for paperbag popcorn plus a holiday note, shares the tradition that can be passed on to others in the hope that they make it a tradition in their home.
Paper bag popcorn is a super easy way to start on your popcorn garland and a great way to make sure everyone gets a bag of their very own to string, eat or string AND eat, which is often the case with my kids.
All you need is:
4 oz. of your favorite popcorn and a paper bag, plus some needle and thread for making the garland.

The Ziploc® Brand extra small square Snap ‘n Seal containers are the perfect size for prepping popcorn. Each container is 4 oz. Perfect for popping.

Fill a plain, paper bag with 4 oz. of popcorn kernels
Fold the top of the bag a couple of times so it doesn’t pop open spilling kernels all over your microwave
Put bag in microwave and cook for about 2 min. (pops about 2 min. 5 sec. in our 1000-watt microwave)

Carefully remove bag from microwave. Be careful, the bag will be hot.

Once the popcorn cools, using your needle and thread carefully string the popcorn onto the string.

Each bag will yield a 3-4 foot popcorn garland depending on your popcorn stringing vs. popcorn eating ratio. We tend to string a little popcorn and munch a little popcorn.
Share Ziploc® Brand Extra Small Square containers filled with popcorn kernels with family and friends so they can make popcorn garlands of their very own.

We haven't done a popcorn garland in years. Sure does bring back memories. Always so fun to make and we ate as much popcorn as we strung.

When my kids were little, we'd string popcorn for the tree and they always enjoyed helping. Popcorn is my favorite snack so I'd have to make sure I didn't eat it all while we were stringing.

I haven't made popcorn garland since I was a kid. My sister, brother and I used to spend HOURS stringing popcorn to put on my parent's tree.

So fun! I don't think I've ever made a popcorn garland, but I think it would be a fun thing to do. Plus, we love eating popcorn!

Popcorn garlands are my signature holiday decoration. We always put one on the tree and also the fireplace mantle. They take a long time to make and I always end up pricking my finger a million times with the needle, but Christmas just wouldn't be the same without them. x
I too prefer microwave popcorn, both the convenience and the taste. I have seen popcorn garland and it looks nice.

The popcorn garland is a classic, and I love the way you make yours. Keeping holiday traditions is important so I'm glad to see your family enjoying it.
Oh my goodness! I haven't made these since I was a little kid. I know my kids would love to make some so we will have to give it a try! - Jeanine
We haven't strung garland in so many years, I'm wondering if we should go ahead and string up some around the house this weekend! Better late than never! We add cranberries in between our kernels too.

Would you believe that I have never strung popcorn for the tree? We never did it growing up, and I have never thought about doing it for the kids. We may have to give it a try this year!

This would be a fun craft to do with my kids while we watch Christmas movies. I am not sure where we would string the Popcorn garland though because my cats would totally eat the popcorn! ha!

I know that my daughter loves doing the Christmas Tree every year. It's a ton of fun. She loves to put up all the lights and the ornaments as well as the garland. But in all of our years we have never done the popcorn garland. I don't think I even did it as a child. But we should try this out for sure.

Thanks for sharing your family tradition. This is my first time hearing about popcorn garlands. The photos and directions seem really easy to follow. But most importantly, you get to develop a closer bond with loved ones. I too, would eat more popcorn than I'd want to admit ;)

Life is a Beach Giveaway Hop

Spring is in full swing.  The birds are singin'.  The pollen is falling and temps are FINALLY warming up.  So what better time time to start planning our Summer getaways. This year - as always - we are beach bound.  It's one of our fave places to visit given we only get to the beach once or twice a year.   Last year's visit to Cozumel was one for the record books. We stopped by this little restaurant and dined on grilled shrimp in a cabana right on the beach.   'Ohana also has a line of tequilas in flavors I had never seen before.  Tropical flavors such as coconut, mango and pina colada.  Hubby and I tried the 'Ohana peanut butter tequila.  The owner said folks either love it or hate it... we LOVED it!!! As I was sipping all I could think of was how good this peanut butter tequila would taste as a baste on my tequila wings.  It would be like a tequila satay wings type dish. * * * G I V E A W A Y * * * One lucky Three ...
