All You Want To Know About The Bible In Pop Culture
Finding Our Creator In Superheroes, Prince Charming, And Other Modern Marvels

What do you get when you cross reality TV, music videos, comics, Andy Warhol style pop art and the Bible?  You're bound to get the book, All You Want to Know About the Bible in Pop Culture.  This in your face reference to biblical references found in some of our favorite songs, movies, television shows and more is sure to raise some eyebrows.  Author Kevin Harvey does a superb job illustrating how the Bible weaves its way into pop culture.
Book Description
Somehow, it's hard to picture pop culture and Christianity going hand-in-hand, but maybe we simply aren't looking at things the right way. All You Want to Know About the Bible in Pop Culture reveals places where readers may be surprised to find redeeming values and gospel messages in today's movies, music, popular TV shows, and much more!

When you look closely, past the outrageous outfits and the antics of teen pop-sensations, it's easy to see that from the big screen to the small screen and right down to the radio waves, God and His stories are still prevalent in pop culture today. There are movies and television shows that speak eternal truth, reality show families who represent believers well, even fictional Christians portrayed in a positive light. And if you listen closely, musicians are still conversing with God as the original songwriters of the Bible did. For the reader searching for meaning in media today, All You Want to Know About the Bible in Pop Culture is the perfect choice.

Features include:

  • Fun Bible-based facts and trivia questions
  • Examples of biblical messages from current TV shows, films, and pop songs
  • A casual and engaging resource

My Thoughts
I was really surprised at some of the tie-ins from shows such as The Simpsons, The Mindy Project, reality tv and movie references but it made perfect sense.  Recently, a pastor and I were talking about various types of ministry.  Both of us agreed there are so many ways to minister to people.  Some may be filled upon hearing the pastor's sermon, while others need a little music or dramatic performance to reach them.  Harvey's All You Want to Know About the Bible in Pop Culture is a prime example of reaching people where they are.  Using media to reach people is necessary to reach some.  Some may argue it's adapting to the wiles of the world, while others may retort it's part of the mission.  Me, I think subtle messages are tied into every product endorsement so why not biblical messages.

Overall, a very interesting read worth checking out.

Life is a Beach Giveaway Hop

Spring is in full swing.  The birds are singin'.  The pollen is falling and temps are FINALLY warming up.  So what better time time to start planning our Summer getaways. This year - as always - we are beach bound.  It's one of our fave places to visit given we only get to the beach once or twice a year.   Last year's visit to Cozumel was one for the record books. We stopped by this little restaurant and dined on grilled shrimp in a cabana right on the beach.   'Ohana also has a line of tequilas in flavors I had never seen before.  Tropical flavors such as coconut, mango and pina colada.  Hubby and I tried the 'Ohana peanut butter tequila.  The owner said folks either love it or hate it... we LOVED it!!! As I was sipping all I could think of was how good this peanut butter tequila would taste as a baste on my tequila wings.  It would be like a tequila satay wings type dish. * * * G I V E A W A Y * * * One lucky Three ...
