5 Tips to Help Foster Your Child's Love of Reading + a Baby, Baby! Giveaway

My kids are avid readers and I like to think their love of reading began in the womb.  No surprise considering I read to them all the time during my pregnancy.

The Littlest One turned 1 this month and I read to her every time I see her.  I love to see her expressions at the inflections of my voice and absolutely adore her reaching up to turn the pages as my kids did when they were her age.

Reading is a great way to foster a bond with your child.  It's one on one time and a great way to help little ones learn to focus.  Reading also helps children develop language skills and there's nothing like the look of a little one watching as you read each word.

Looking for a great book for your baby?  Well, check out these fab reads baby sure to help foster your child's love of reading.

1.  Read to Your Child
Read to your child and as your child gets older read with them. Infants love the sound of your voice whereas, older children love to turn the pages, look at the pictures, and read themselves.  Change as your child grows.

2.  Establish a Routine
Set aside a specific time for reading.  Perhaps bedtime or sometime in the early evening. Reading time pairs perfectly with bedtime and helps little ones establish a schedule.

3.  Get a Library Card for Your Child
Allow your child to choose their own books.  Our local library offers self check kiosks and our kids love checking out their books themselves without the assistance of others.

4.  Let Them See YOU Reading
Believe it or not but our kids pick up tons of habits from us.  So while you're little one is reading their book, make sure they see you reading a book, a newspaper, a cookbook, a magazine, anything.  The family that reads together... well, reads together.

5.  Read Out Loud
Read out loud and allow your little one time to look at the pictures.  Board books like Baby, Baby! are great for little ones as they are designed to be durable for little ones so let your child touch the book and cover it with their sticky little fingers.
BABY, BABY! by Diane Stortz is a perfect read for little ones.  The board book features rhythmic verse and a mirror.  The book is colorfully illustrated and perfect for reading to little ones.
