Green Giant "Raise a Giant" $25 Gift Card Giveaway #MyBlogSpark #Spons

Dear Mom and Dad, do YOU have what it takes to

Green Giant® knows it takes a lot more to raise a healthy child then just getting them to eat their vegetables. Kids these days live in a world that is bigger and scarier than the world we grew up in, and they need help and encouragement to navigate that world with confidence and pride. Unfortunately one of the hardest things kids have to deal with is bullying. When a child is bullied by a peer it can turn his or her life into a daily gauntlet of fear and anxiety. That’s why Green Giant® is partnering with PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center and We Day Minnesota to help parents Raise A Giant and put a stop to bullying in their community.

My son was a victim of bullying when he was in the 1st grade.  One of Los Tres Amigos suffered from a severe speech deficit when he was younger and there was one child who repeatedly teased my son.  Hubby and I followed all the proper channels when our child brought the teasing to our attention.  We met with the teacher.  We offered to meet with the child's parents but they never attended any of the meetings.  One day, I received a call from the school saying my child was in the nurses' office.  The little boy who had been teasing my son punched my child in his mouth knocking his tooth out.  You cannot imagine the rage I felt knowing I was unable to protect my precious 6-year old child.

Our story, albeit a sad one, actually turned out to the catapulting force in changing our lives forever.  Long story, short version, we were forced to change schools and have never had another bullying incident.  Hubby and I became more active in our children's school.  We've gone on every field trip, joined PTA, helped out at school when needed and stay in touch frequently with our children's teachers.

We've also encouraged our chlildren to speak up when they see someone being teased...even when no one else does.  I'm unsure if my child's experience led him to be the child who now speaks up whenever he witnesses other children being bullied or teased.  Yet I am proud mommy because I know it takes courage he shows to do the RIGHT thing and be a giant.
Being a giant isn’t about being the biggest or the best. Being a giant means standing up for others. It means lending a hand to those who are in trouble and speaking up for those who sometimes find it hard to speak up for themselves. Studies show that an effective way to stop bullying is for kids to simply speak up and say, “That’s not okay” when they see bullying happening. But asking kids to have the courage to stand up to bullying is a tall order and that’s why they need our help.

Green Giant®, MyBlogSpark and Three Boys and an Old Lady blog are asking parents to write a letter to their kids telling them how special they are and encouraging them to be part of the bullying prevention solution by being a giant.

To get started visit RaiseAGiant.com and read the letters others have written.

A donation was made on my behalf to the Pacer's Center for Bully Prevention courtesy of General Mills in exchange for this post.  How awesome is that?
